TMC overhauls INTTUC core committees in Tamluk and Durgapur ahead of 2026 polls

Trinamool Congress on Tuesday announced new core committees for its labour wing INTTUC in Tamluk and Durgapur, marking a major organisational reshuffle ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The restructuring focuses on strengthening the district-level leadership and mobilising the workforce in key political and industrial regions of the state.

In Tamluk, Ritabrata Banerjee has been appointed as president of the new INTTUC core committee. The other members include Astik Chatterjee, Pradip De, Asim Maji, Shankar Dandapat, Shyamal Maity, Sudipta Bhakta, SK Alamgir, and Alam Jelani. Among them, Shyamal Maity has recently joined Trinamool Congress after quitting BJP. He has prior experience in trade union activities dating back to his association with CITU and is known for his organisational work in East Midnapore.

Reacting to his appointment, Shyamal Maity said, “The party has entrusted me with a responsibility. In the coming days, we will work to ensure that workers receive their due share on time. Rather than assigning the task to one person, forming a core committee and working based on everyone’s advice is more effective. So, thank you all.”

A separate 12-member core committee has been announced for Durgapur. Apart from state INTTUC president Ritabrata Banerjee, the committee includes Manas Adhikari, Rajesh Konar, Bhuvaneshwar Mukherjee, Sushanta Roy, Liton Sarkar, Abhishek De, Hardeep Singh, Debabrata Kesh, Purnananda Chatterjee, Sheikh Aminur Rahman, and Akbar Ali. The list has been officially released.

Trinamool Congress had earlier announced new INTTUC core committees for North Kolkata and Birbhum. With the inclusion of Tamluk and Durgapur, the party has now covered key districts with significant labour populations and industrial presence. Party sources state that the organisational revamp is aimed at improving coordination, representation, and responsiveness within the workers’ wing.
